What to Consider When Choosing a Photographer

This week we worked with Amanda, photographer, and owner of Amanda Theresa Photography to bring you the questions that you should be asking your potential photographers. Photographs will help you relive one of the best days of your life forever. These are what your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will get to see. Making sure you choose the right photographer will make sure that these memories capture who you truly are as a couple.

Here are the top 6 questions Amanda says you should ask your photographer.
What is your photography style?
Amanda says, “Between the composition and posting to styling and editing, it is so important to make sure you really like your photographer’s creative style! My style is true to color with a touch of warmth, timeless and authentic. I intentionally guide my couples into actions so that I can capture authentic moments to tell their unique story.”
With so many different photography styles in addition to each photographer having a unique take on the style, it is important to understand what you are looking for your photographs to look like. Think about both of your personalities to help you decide on the style that you want.
Do you shoot Digital, Film, or both?
“This is a new trend to bring back the old-fashioned film cameras and can be a great way to incorporate another timeless piece to your collection. I have recently started offering film as an add-on to my classic digital collection. Each of my clients get a private gallery link to their full gallery where they can choose to share or keep the gallery to themselves. Film collections will also be scanned and added to their gallery!”
We love seeing film photos! They add a special touch of classic plus they look great on a gallery wall.
Can I customize a package with you?
“I create custom packages for each one of my couples so that I can capture their day perfectly! I typically like to start with a call to hear more about their plans and their vision for the day and create a custom proposal for my couples to include everything they need to authentically capture their big day.”
A customized package is perfect to ensure you get everything you want out of your wedding day. Each wedding, like each couple, is unique so make sure all of your needs are met with the package you choose.
Do you travel? How far do you travel and do you travel out of state/out of the country?
“I travel anywhere my clients want to go! I even have a bucket list of locations where I will waive travel fees like Italy, Cabo, and various venues throughout the US.”
Whether you want a fun twist on engagement photos, destination weddings, or even a honeymoon shoot, it is great to use the same photographer you are comfortable with. Amanda is always on the go and we love following the fun places she visits and shoots!
Do you offer any additional services besides day of coverage?
“I love to offer engagement sessions prior to the wedding day so that I can get to know my couples. I also offer boudoir sessions, adventure sessions, bridal shower coverage and night before/rehearsal dinner coverage. My couples also get customized styling and planning for their sessions as well as timeline planning and unlimited communication with me leading up to and after their big day!”
We love a good boudoir session! Nothing makes you feel more empowered than doing a boudoir shoot, and it is a great wedding day gift for your future spouse.
Can we request specific shots?
“While I love when clients trust my creative style, I love it even more when my couples want to collaborate and plan out their photos with me. I also really appreciate when my couples create a family shot list so I can be sure to capture all those important family photos with loved ones.”
We highly recommend creating a family shot list. If you give this to your planner we can help your photographer gather all of the people needed for the shots to ensure no one gets left out and to keep the day moving smoothly.
