Dinner & Dancing? Dancing First!

Hi! We are here to discuss why you should do your first dance before dinner! This is a topic we feel so strongly about that I hope I can articulate the importance of this recommendation. If we could make one rule for weddings, this would be it! This or that friendors are not allowed, we might be torn.

Anyway, doing your first dance before dinner is one of our biggest recommendations for a few reasons. This is one of those moments you are going to have hanging on the walls for the rest of your life! Photographs during it are so memorable. Doing your first dance before dinner ensures that you will have a clean background. Dancing after dinner will have dirty plates in the back of this wonderful moment. And let’s face it, no one wants to see the remnants of your meal on the wall for the next 30 years.

Another reason we recommend that your first dance be first is that you have the full attention of your guests. After dinner starts, everyone starts mingling. Your aunt and your new in-laws’ neighbor’s pastor all went to school together. Or your best friend’s date grew up with your sister in-law’s husband’s parents. We love what a small world it is for sure! But once everyone starts reminiscing, it is hard to keep their attention long enough for your dance.

Our last plea for your first dance before dinner, and maybe all of the dances if you’re willing to, is that it flows well. Having all of your formalities at the beginning of the reception allows us to keep things moving while everyone prepares for dinner. This way after the party can begin and everyone can just have fun!

Many couples do not think that they can do the dances and formalities first because of their venue layout. Insert Lauren & Co! When we make the timeline and do the final walk through, we take all of that into consideration for you. We will figure out the details and logistics of making it work! If that means getting creative, even better. We promise you will not be disappointed with your first dance before dinner, trust us on this!
