Marriage Licenses: Ohio Requirements

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday! A question we receive often from our couples regards marriage licenses in Ohio. So today we are going to cover what you are required to do if you are getting married in Ohio!

This is one of those necessary, but not necessarily fun aspects of wedding planning.

First, Ohio requires you to follow county requirements. The marriage license needs to be filed for in a county where at least one recipient lives, or if from out of state, needs to be in the county where the ceremony will take place. Both applicants are required to be present for this.

Your marriage license is valid 60 days from the date that it is issued.

Make sure that you check online before booking to see if an appointment is needed. In addition to this, some counties require you to pre-register prior to going in.

Make sure to bring your Social Security Card as well. Some counties require this as well as a photo id.

Another thing to note is that in some counties, you will not receive your marriage license the same day you apply for one. We recommend checking your county’s probate court website to look at individual county requirements.
