Formality is Our Favorite!

Happy Tuesday! We have THE most exciting blog post for you today. The Lauren & Co Events team had to privilege of meeting with and learning from local wedding dress expert, owner of Formality Resale, Penny Bowers-Schebal! We could write this entire blog alone on why we love Penny, but we think it would be better for you to meet her yourself! So this blog will focus on the experience you can expect at Formality and a few things to keep in mind when shopping for your dress.

Experience

The experience you will get at Formality is so unique and removes all of the stress of dress shopping. Each appointment is 90 minutes long. During this time you will do a number of things. You will be asked about your wedding to allow the bridal experts to better recommend dresses. Season, vision, and location are all important to get the proper recommendations for a dress. Your bridal expert will pick out a dress or two and you will pick out some as well, totaling five dresses. Typically most places have you try on three (another reason we love Formality).

Then you will be taken to your dressing room, which is an actual room, compared to the shower-sized box you are normally expected to try a dress on in. Not only are these rooms quite roomy, but they are also well decorated and give you the perfect view of your dress before you show everyone.

One of our favorite parts of Formality is the waiting area for your gang! Relaxing, moody music and gorgeous church pews make what was previously the alter of this old church the perfect area for your group to wait for your debut of dresses.

After you try on all the dresses you will try on your top two again. Then you will have a “dress-off” to determine which dress is THE ONE!

Things To Keep In Mind

  1. Bridal Size Differs

Your street size is extremely different from your bridal size. Bridal size is much larger than street size. This is nothing to stress over because it is only used to help find you the perfect dress. Bridal size means nothing outside of the bridal store.

  2. Dresses Need Alterations

That being said, no dress will ever fit perfectly before alterations. Dresses require alterations to look like they were made for you, which they were! Also, consider alterations when setting your dress budget. Keep this in mind when you are shopping for a dress as well.

  3. Posing

For each dress you try on, make sure you practice different poses that you might be on your wedding day. Maybe not a full-on dip, but at least some so that you get an idea of what the dress, and you, look like from all angles.

  4. Silhouettes

Try on many silhouettes to see what looks good on you and what you like! This will also help you to make sure that you are 1000% sure the one you pick is perfect! It rules out all the others.

Finally, we would like to thank Penny for having us! It was an honor to have the opportunity to learn from you! We highly suggest that anyone looking for their dress, schedule an appointment at Formality Resale. You won’t just fall in love with your dress, you’re sure to fall in love with Penny as well!!!
