We’re Just Here For Dessert
We’re not sure about you, but we love dessert! Picking out dessert has to be one of the most fun aspects of planning a wedding (actually every aspect is the best but we may be biased)! In our area, summertime is wedding season which likely means there are a number of weddings going on around the same time as yours. Guests may start to feel like every wedding is the same. In order to stand out, there are a few things you can do to add unique aspects to your wedding! Our favorite way to add unique aspects, is today’s blog topic, dessert!!!
We have seen some great dessert ideas over the years and love hopping on the newest dessert trends! We will share with you a number of unique dessert ideas and some of our recommendations if you want to take the classical route!
If you are looking for unique dessert ideas, we have just the recommendation! Think about it, when you are at a wedding and there are options, you tend to want to taste a few. We see this all the time, as a result, we end up throwing out so many half-eaten desserts! The answer: Tiny Desserts!!
Having a number of different types of desserts or different flavors of the same dessert is great to provide a treat for all people. Making them tiny will decrease wasted dessert and allows your guests to try multiple flavors. We love Michelle from Sweet Revolution for all the tiny dessert needs! The dessert shots are so amazing and will satisfy that sweet tooth! With Sweet Revolution, you order by the dozen, giving you numerous options on how you can design your dessert table!
Another trend we are seeing often (and loving) is cupcakes! Cupcake tables make for a low-maintenance dessert table. We still recommend going for the mini size but anything cupcake is a hit! Many couples then do a small two or three-tier cake for them to cut.
Cookie tables are also in! Whether it be cultural cookies or your favorites, cookie tables offer a number of options and will be a hit with your post-dinner, coffee-loving crowd!
Any of these ideas can be made unique by you! Incorporate desserts that are your favorite or mean something to you both. We had one couple who chose to do pies for dessert. Another couple had a local ice cream truck instead of cake. We have even seen a couple choose to do chocolate-covered strawberries and truffles!
For our more traditional couples, we recommend doing a small tiered cake and then having sheet cakes in the back to be served to guests. This is a budget-friendly option that allows you to put money into other areas of your wedding! Especially if you and your fiancé are not huge dessert people. We also strongly recommend this for anyone doing a cassata cake. Cassata cakes are heavy and are unable to be made in a tiered version. The filling is heavy and will cause your cake to fall over, something no one wants to happen to them!
Our final tip follows our single-tier cassata suggestion! Avoid buttercream on your layers, especially in the summer! Buttercream melts very quickly and will cause your cake to go from elegant and poise to sloppy and slanted! No one wants this, especially for your cake! Using a different frosting is highly recommended, especially if you are having an outdoor reception.
