3 Common Mistakes Couples Make When Planning A Wedding

Hey there! This week we are helping you avoid the common mistakes we see all the time! You are not expected to be experts, that what we are here for. These are the mistakes we see couples make all the time.

  1. Skimping on Important Vendors

There are certain vendors that can really make the day memorable. Planners, photographers, and DJs are the three big ones we encourage couples to spend the money on. Planners are responsible for so much of the behind the scenes, allowing your day to feel relaxing. We communicate with all the vendors, gather all the important people, and handle issues before they can reach you. We keep the day running smoothly and keep things on time. Your photographer is a life long investment, your pictures last forever! And your DJ keeps the party alive and your guests on the dance floor! We have an entire blog which details exactly why these vendors are so important, click here to read more.

  2. Not Properly Communicating with Vendors

Another mistake we see often is when a couple makes last minute changes and does not inform their vendors of these changes ahead of time. We all follow the same timeline. So if you decide last minute to do a first look, extend happy hour, or move up the cake cutting, we all need to know. Your photographer needs to be ready for a first look. Your caterer needs to know that food will be needed half an hour later than originally planned. And your DJ needs to know that the cake cutting is happening sooner so he/she can make the appropriate announcements. We will stress that your planner needs to know all of these first so that we can alter the timeline and send the updated copy to all of the vendors. Arriving on site on your wedding day is not the best time to inform us of changes if it can be avoided!

  3. Not Creating A Backup/Rain Plan

We live in Ohio! Fall in the morning, Summer by noon, Winter by five o’clock, that’s kinda how it goes! For this reason it is so important to have a rain plan for your wedding. This is not just if it rains on the day of your actual wedding. If you are having a tent wedding, consider the weather the week of the tent set up. If it rains heavily days before, the ground will be soggy when the tent is put up. If the tent is in a shaded area, then the ground will dry out much slower than a sunny one. Everything underneath will still be wet on the day of, meaning a very muddy experience. To avoid the stress of Ohio’s wonderfully unpredictable weather, it is critical to have a backup plan.
